SoftServe has accumulated and delivered to doctors from 7 Ukrainian cities over 4 tonnes of personal protective equipment
Immediately after the quarantine announcement, SoftServe committed to supporting medical institutions’ efforts to combat COVID-19 by providing essential healthcare resources and tools and direct $ 10 million. The donation has been put into the corporate charity fund “Open Eyes” to address urgent medical needs in the Ukrainian cities where SoftServe has offices. At the same time, company associates raised another UAH 3 million, and on the Foundation’s website, every user can donate to the “Let`s knock out COVID-19” project, which has already raised about UAH 800,000.
The Found focused on team sites and hospitals to receive “second wave” patients, where patients with suspected coronavirus were referred.
“After a detailed assessment of the situation, the experience of other countries and the statistics of the Ministry of Health, according to which every fourth patient is a medical doctor, we decided to direct all the collected funds, that are about 14 million UAH to the high-quality protection for medical workers, and the ventilators, that were critical and outstanding in Ukraine at the beginning of the pandemic, ”- said Taras Vervega, co-founder and BOD member at SoftServe.
The Fund purchased and, within SoftServe volunteers support delivered over 4 tonnes (about three hundred boxes) of protective overalls and goggles to 19 hospitals in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Chernivtsi and Rivne. The personal protective equipment was delivered from Guangzhou, Ningbo and Tianyin and corresponded to the same level of protection that Wuhan doctors used during the first Covid-19 outbreak.
“During the procurement, we faced many challenges – we had to wait for the certain equipment delivery until May-June (the campaign was launched in mid-March). There were cases where countries have closed exports of medical supplies, while we had contracts at the stage of signing with suppliers from those countries and, finally, we had to look for a new supplier, with quality certificates and all the necessary documents, from every beginning, – said Victoria Mishchuk, Acting director of the “Open Eyes” charity fund. – Today, we have succeeded in applying some of the urgent protection needs and purchasing Covid-19 express tests. We have already delivered most of these items, and the rest are being transferred now to the hospitals in seven cities of Ukraine.”
To sum up, the Fund has bought and delivered to medical institutions so far:
- 2 mechanical ventilation devices (produced by Blisar, Ukraine)
- 11 500 respiratory type masks (country of origin Ukraine)
- 7,500 personal protection suits for doctors (country of origin China)
- 4,000 goggles (country of origin China)
- 1,000 Respiratory Masks 3M (USA)
- 600 medical protection suits
- 1,860 test systems (type “One Step Test COVID-19 IgG / IgM device”)
SoftServe employees also assist local governments and government agencies in developing and technological solutions implementation to combat COVID-19. An example of such assistance was the development of the STOP COVID-19 online platform and chatbots for the Lviv Regional Council, that was later completed with data from all over Ukraine. The platform contains comprehensive information about the list and contacts of medical institutions, indicating the contacts of family doctors, as well as the current distribution map of Covid-19 in Ukraine.
