Improving City Infrastructure by Big Data: Project of the Association of American Geographers

On the 5th of February, the members of Kharkiv IT Cluster met with a delegation of the Association of American Geographers under the leadership of the US State Department Geographer, Lee Schwartz. Participants from the US side noted that they had already been acknowledged with the activity of the Cluster and Kharkiv IT-specialists: their work is famous for its high quality.

The topic of the discussion was the new “Secondary Cities Project”, concerning major cities not having the status of capitals, implemented by the Association of American Geographers, under the auspices of the US State Department. The main focus of the project is the creation of open databases which will develop e-infrastructure of the city and ensure urban environment management.

Executive Director of Kharkiv IT Cluster, Natalia Vinogradskaya, the Head of the Supervisory Board of Kharkiv IT Cluster, Alexander Medovoy, presented to the US delegation the possibility of companies participating in the Cluster, and announced their intention to support the development of this project in Kharkiv and contribute to its early launch.

In addition, representatives of the companies-members of Kharkiv IT Cluster, participating in the International Marketing Committee  (AltexSoft, Rozdoum, VERNA) attended  the meeting. They discussed the examples of projects that could be useful to Secondary Cities Project.

Kharkiv IT Cluster is going to take part in this initiative of the Association of American Geographers  and the US State Department.
