How to sound professional in English: a series of hedging workshops for IT professionals
In business, it’s not just about speaking English correctly, it’s also about how you sound. Too direct phrases can ruin negotiations, damage customer relationships, or create tension in the team.
The solution is hedging. This is a language strategy that makes communication more diplomatic, polite, and effective. It helps IT managers build partnerships instead of conflicts.
For example, instead of the direct “You’re wrong”, more polite variants are more often used in business English: “I see your point, but maybe we could also consider…”. Such nuances make the difference between formally correct words and truly effective communication.
