Three areas where GenAI is already enhancing medicine: GlobalLogic’s experience

More than 3,000 GlobalLogic engineers create complex medical solutions. Today, developments based on generative AI can significantly improve medical services. The company’s experts have identified three areas where transformations are noticeable today.

In 2023, generative AI in healthcare market was valued at $1.4 billion. It is projected to hit around $22 billion by 2032. GlobalLogic’s Ukrainian engineers create solutions for 100+ clients in the healthcare industry. Some of them are already powered by generative AI. The company’s specialists have identified the areas where the impact of GenAI is most noticeable.

Time optimization

Doctors spend about 14 hours a week on documentation maintenance, a 25% more than 7 years ago. GenAI automates these tasks: it speeds up filling out reports, keeping records, and takes over a significant number of routine tasks.

Another solution is chatbots based on large language models. These computer programs are already trusted by 67% of patients worldwide. Chatbots can handle about 80% of simple requests. They are able to collect data for preliminary examination, analyze anamnesis and highlight critical data for a doctor, help to develop personalized treatment, monitor patient’s condition, etc. But it’s important to remember that the doctor’s involvement is still critical.

Diagnostics and medical visualization

Diagnostics account for more than 10% of all healthcare costs. Generative AI will help significantly optimize time and resources at the initial stage of treatment. For instance, GenAI improves the accuracy and efficiency of medical imaging (MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, etc.) by using machine learning methods to interpret images. In addition, GenAI enables early disease detection and provides detailed information for individual treatment plans.

GlobalLogic engineers have created Nevus, a prototype of a system for rapid mole verification using a smartphone camera. The audience for Nevus was both ordinary users and doctors. They could check the accuracy of the system and compare it with the previous diagnosis.

Affordable and personalized medicine

734 million people in the world do not have access to basic medical services, and there is less than one doctor per 1000 people in half of the countries. Generative AI enhances the accessibility and ease of obtaining medical services.

Thus, a GenAI solution can fully control the treatment process. Systems based on generative AI keep individual records and documentation of each patient, form a schedule of medications and procedures.

“Working on medical projects requires exceptional knowledge and skills. The training of specialists includes training on quality systems, training on product development for the medical field. After all, a line of code can affect a person’s health and, in some cases, life. More than 3000 GlobalLogic specialists have completed such training and have been creating medical solutions of the highest complexity for many years,” says Natalia Siromakha, Vice President, Engineering, GlobalLogic.
