AltexSoft project “(Not) From the Sky”: anniversary fundraiser, protection of Kharkiv’s skies, and upgraded drones for defense forces

IT Cluster IT Cluster

The project “(Not) From the Sky” by Kharkiv IT Cluster member company AltexSoft has been supporting the defense forces for almost a year and a half. Previously, we shared the latest updates on the project, and today, together with the team, we will look at what has been achieved during this time.

Fundraising to Support a Common Goal with Kharkiv IT Cluster

The ninth fundraiser was entirely dedicated to protecting Kharkiv’s skies from Shaheds. Kharkiv IT Cluster initiated the collection, and AltexSoft not only made their donation but also organized an additional fundraiser. The total amount raised reached 1,525,000 UAH — exactly the amount needed to purchase a sensor for the electronic warfare system, which will help protect the city from Shaheds.

Nine Fundraisers Completed and the “Jubilee” Tenth One Started

During the nine fundraisers, the team successfully raised 9,197,452 UAH. These funds were used to purchase 185 drones of various configurations, 2,517 units of related equipment, and the sensor mentioned above. Detailed reports for each fundraiser are available via the link.

Interestingly, some of the fundraisers focused specifically on drone components. This need arose because the “Nebesna Mara” unmanned systems battalion constantly has drones that require additional equipment or repairs. Some drones can fly but cannot carry a payload. Some kamikaze drones cannot be properly utilized due to the lack of initiation boards. Some have insufficient battery capacity, and so on. Thanks to these fundraisers, it has been possible to improve the performance of hundreds of drones, making them more effective in combat conditions.

The new, tenth fundraiser is dedicated to three goals:

  • Delivery of a pickup truck for the Freikorps, where a company employee serves.
  • Cameras for the situational center in Kharkiv, in collaboration with Kharkiv IT Cluster.
  • Components for drones for the UAV battalion “Nebesna Mara,” 43rd Mechanized Brigade.

The traditional mechanics of friendly fundraisers

In the last four fundraisers, 763,000 UAH were raised by breaking the goal into smaller components. Participants of the “(Not) From the Sky” friendly fundraisers received donations from school or university acquaintances, people they hadn’t seen in a long time, online friends, or from their work network, among others. These mini-fundraisers provide an opportunity to reach the audience of the person launching the friendly fundraiser, significantly expanding the reach. The tenth fundraiser “(Not) From the Sky” will also use this approach.

This aspect of the project also has an additional positive impact. In the first friendly fundraiser, most participants opened their fundraisers for the first time. Today, almost every participant organizes fundraisers again with the “(Not) From the Sky” team, starts their fundraisers, or joins other initiatives. This reflects a shift in mindset, a reduction in fears like “I won’t raise enough,” and a belief in oneself and in the existence of caring people even in the third year of full-scale war.

The project team also regularly raffles off exclusive merchandise among fundraiser participants to maintain their motivation. Each fundraiser’s merchandise is uniquely designed and serves as a symbol of contribution to the shared cause.
