30 Years of NIX’s Success: From a “Garage” Startup to a Global IT Brand

NIX’s story began back in 1994. That’s when a “garage” startup, founded by Igor Braginsky (now President at NIX and a member of the Supervisory Board of Kharkiv IT Cluster), received its first orders and began its rapid growth. The instability of the 90s, the dot-com crash of the 2000s, the 2008 global financial crisis, COVID, and russia’s full-scale invasion — NIX faced each of these storms as challenges that strengthened the team and ultimately paved the way to success.
A Global IT Team Shaping the Rules of the Game
Teamwork is the driving force behind NIX’s growth. Here, everyone has the opportunity to build strong technical expertise, progressing from Trainee to Senior, or take on roles as mentors, team leads, or department heads. This relentless development has enabled NIX to scale its success and become a global player, proudly representing Ukrainian IT on the international stage.
Today, NIX’s expertise spans 24 IT directions and hundreds of business domains, earning the trust of clients worldwide. Prestigious awards and recognitions further validate this success, including:
- four consecutive years in the Global Outsourcing 100 and TopDevelopers.co 500 rankings,
- the Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award 2023 for contributions to AI-based solutions,
- the AVA Digital Awards 2023 for outstanding achievements in digital marketing, and many more.
Despite these accomplishments, NIX continues to push forward. The team is expanding its tech stack, attracting new clients, establishing partnerships around the world, and driving the transformation of Ukrainian IT through educational initiatives.
Supporting Students and Developing Talents
Smart, tech-savvy youth are an investment in Ukraine’s future as an international innovation hub. With this belief in mind, NIX has been supporting universities for many years, participating in the development of educational programs, and offering free training in its own offices. These efforts help bridge the gap between basic IT education and the practical needs of businesses.
NIX is a trusted partner of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (KhNURE), S. Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics, National Aerospace University (KhAI), Poltava National Technical University, and other educational hubs. Their collaboration has led to projects aimed at improving education and preparing highly skilled professionals for the industry. These projects include:
- Helping create a unique technology lab at KhNURE,
- Investing over 1 million UAH in Karazin’s “Support IT Education” initiative,
- Ensuring continuous education at Karazin University by providing 745,000 UAH for the purchase of a high-speed router — and that’s just a small part of the support provided.
Additionally, NIX maintains close contact with future IT specialists. The team runs its own free educational programs with potential employment opportunities, holds technical lectures, offers consultations, and organizes office tours. These initiatives not only support talent but also shape the future of Ukrainian IT.
NIX’s Social Responsibility and Volunteer Spirit
NIX’s strength lies not only in its technology but also in its commitment to social responsibility. From the very beginning, the company has always helped those in need.
In 2014, NIX was one of the first IT teams to begin delivering essential supplies to the front lines, launching a support program for soldiers and veterans of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO), and providing financial assistance to refugees.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the team established its own volunteer headquarters and streamlined military supply efforts. As of August 2024, together with its partners, NIX has provided direct aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine totaling over 1.5 billion UAH, earning a spot among the top IT donators in Ukraine.
In addition, the NIX community continuously improves its volunteer expertise, maintains direct contact with soldiers, and strives to meet their most urgent needs. This is a core value at NIX, wholeheartedly supported by the entire team.
Staying True to Own Principles
NIX’s impressive growth and international success are deeply rooted in Kharkiv. For over a decade, the team has consistently supported local hospitals, providing them with essential equipment. During the most challenging days of the pandemic, NIX supplied oxygen tanks. Now, alongside its partners, the company is helping rebuild the city, purchasing supplies for heating points, and backing municipal projects and initiatives.
Today, despite the challenges, NIX remains true to its core values — supporting its team, preserving jobs, and safeguarding the future of Ukraine’s IT sector. The company continues to provide its employees on the front line with everything they need, while never ceasing its fight for Ukraine’s prosperity and the advancement of its IT community.
